Musaics stocks new and second hand instruments. My primary focus these days is to recycle classroom instruments. Most instruments are easily refurbished, and mostly require replacing perished rubber parts, due to the age of the instrument. I can also make virtually any part for any classroom percussion instrument if the original parts are no longer available. All second hand instruments are guaranteed to be in as good if not better playing condition than when new. In replacing for example rubber parts on xylophones and metallophones, I often use better quality materials than used in manufacture.

I am also wanting to purchase or accept donations of unwanted or damaged classroom percussion instruments. These I can repair and donate or on sell to schools that face budgetary constraints that would otherwise not allow them to have these instruments.

I am also happy to repair instruments in exchange for unwanted instruments. Schools often receive donations of unwanted instruments that remain unused by the school. This can be anything like guitars, electronic items, wind or brass instruments.

Please contact me if you are after something in particular.

As Musaics primary focus is the repair, and sale of tuned percussion I can guarantee that all tuned percussion instruments for sale are also instruments I can service, and supply parts for. Any classroom xylophone or metallophone for example can be purchased with complete confidence with regard to its ongoing use, no matter how harsh the classroom environment. I can sometimes supply genuine parts, but failing that I can pretty much make anything for these instruments.

All prices are inclusive of GST. I am able to organise freight, the cost of which varies with destination. For schools wishing to order, I am able to provide ABN and invoice the school.

Regarding warranties on items listed here, this will vary. All new instruments when indicated as new, are covered by the manufacturers warranty. Any tuned percussion items I have listed as second hand refurbished I guarantee for 3 months, and possibly longer, at my discretion, and depending on the situation. All tuned percussion manufactured by myself I am happy to guarantee for the life of that instrument. This means anything excluding normal wear and tear of normal or extreme usage, and can be taken to include for example changes in tuning of xylophone bars, which I will re tune free of charge for their life. It does not include for example perishing of rubber components, which is part of an instruments wear and maintenance.

Anything needing to be returned will need to be returned to Musaics, at the cost of the purchaser, at which time I will repair, replace or refund as required.

I don't have a shopping cart or check out system. If you wish to purchase an item please email me on billv@westnet.com.au and we can arrange.

Optimum Percussion Classroom Marimba

Optimum Percussion Classroom Marimba

This classroom marimba is a 3 octave instrument. This model has the fiberglass bars. It is well constructed, assembles and disassembles easily and comes on good quality castors, so is easy to move around.

The fiberglass bars are an ideal option to timber bars. Though not giving the traditional timber bar sound, they are brighter in tone, and are very stable in tuning, as they are not affected by temperature and humidity changes like timber is.

Just the one available. Normally retails at $1900.

Price $1200.

I am able to deliver within the Melbourne metropolitan area.

Musaics Orff Style Bass Xylophone. Final Sale.

Musaics Orff Bass Xylophone

This classroom xylophone is a full 2 octave instrument with rosewood bars, made right here in Melbourne by myself. This means that all parts, including spare bars etc are easily available. Bars are carefully overtone tuned. The boxes are made from good quality plywood that won't split or de-laminate. I know it looks a little unconventional, but the design is the result of my attempt to make a bass xylophone that is as light as possible. It's not the smallest bass available, after all it is a full 2 octave, but it weighs 13 kg, which I'm pretty sure is the lightest bass around. This I felt to be an important factor if these instruments are to be portable.

Musaics Bass Xylophone is demonstrated in this video. Please open this in a new tab.

Price $770 (GST inclusive), making this the cheapest 2 octave bass xylophone in Australia, as far as I know. This price is heavily reduced and is only available while stocks last. I have around 20 left. For schools wishing to order, I am able to provide ABN and invoice the school.

I am able to freight anywhere in Australia. Cost varies with destination.

I have recently made an improvement to my bass xylophones, as shown in the following photograps. an additional piece of timber under one side of the bars avoids the problem of bending the pins if the bars are lifted incorrectly.

Fully Chromatic Bass Metallophone

Chromatic Bass Metallophone

This is a brand new fully chromatic bass metallophone on a Suzuki stand. The brand is Meyer, which is exactly the same as instruments sold under the Optimum brand label. It has been on display in a shop for a while, but is in perfect condition.

It is set up on a Suzuki Stand which is very sturdy, height adjustable and on castors, so is very easy to move around.

This is a very good setup. These instruments are amongst the best designed and built classroom instruments available today.

Made in Taiwan.

At this time the diatonic part alone retails for $1049, the chromatic extension retails for $959, and the stand retails for around $350. Combined current retail is $2355. This price is $1400.

I am prepared to sell the diatonic part separately, as not everyone wants a chromatic instrument. Please messsage me to discuss.

Bass Xylophone

Bass Xylophone

This is a chromatic extension that I have reworked as a diatonic bass xylophone. As such it only goes up to G, as opposed to the standard range which has one more note, to A.

I have made the bars, and the box and rubbers are brand new, so it is a new instrument.

Comes with F#'s and Bb. I have also fitted an extension to the box that prevents the pins from bending if the bars are removed incorrectly. This invention of mine I have shown elsewhere on this web site.

This price is $400.

Studio 49 Chromatic Glokenspiel

Studio 49 Chromatic Glockenspiel

This is a Studio 49 1.6 octave soprano chromatic glockenspiel. I have made all the bars for this glock so I guess it's a Studio 49 only as far as the woodwork. Also has new rubber parts as required.

Comes with a pair of mallets.

This price is $80.

Alto Glokenspiel

Alto Glokenspiel

This is a glockenspiel that I have made all he bars for. The box part is Japanese made instrument I have not seen before. The bars are the same size as that used in studio 49 glockenspiels, so they are interchangeable.

Tone Bars

Tone Bars Tone Bars

This is a refurbished set of tone bars. In refurnishing these I have replaced various rubber parts, and found that the resonator boxes for the lower notes were not tuned to the bars very well. I have rectified this as much as possible. This set now works better, in the lower bars, than they did when new.

In excellent playing condition. Comes in a case as shown. Comes with a pair of mallets.

Price is $100.

Dulcet Tone Bars

Dulcet Tone Bars

This 1.5 octave chromatic set is a refurbished set of tone bars. This set includes some brand new tone bars as well as ones that I have repaired. When necessary I have made changes to the tuning of the resonator part (the tube underneath the metal bar) so as to maximise the sound of each note. Some of the metal bars and the resonators vary in appearance, but everything is perfectly in tune and working well.

These tone bars in my opinion are the best such tone bars that were made. Each resonator is tuned to it's bar more accurately than any other commercially made classroom set of this type, allowing them to project much better. They were made in England some years ago, but like many things of this quality, were to expensive in comparison to lesser instruments of this type made in other countries.

In excellent playing condition. Comes with 3 sets of mallets. This set does not come in a case. I don't believe they ever came in a case.

Price is $50.

Timpany Cover

Brand New. This cover is 34 inches, or 86 cm wide. It should fit up to a 32 inch timpany, depending on how far the side struts, if there are any, protrude. They are easy to store as they fold up very flat, unlike the padded ones, which do provide better protection on the sides, but are difficult to fold up and store. Six of them available.

Deagan Xylophone

Deagan Xylophone Deagan Xylophone

This is a project that is part of the long and growing list of projects that I may never get round to, so, time to clear out.

It's a portable Deagan xylophone, that is in need of some repair to the frame before putting back together. I have had the meatl plates with all the Deagan numbers etc re-chromed, various screws chromed. The orginal screws for the bar supports are also there, in original condition.

The bars have gone about 1/2 of a semitone sharp. Not unusual for bars this old. I am happy to retune them. They are "quint" tuned (more on that on the net).

Price $600 for the lot.

Saito SG100 Glockenspiel Stand

Saito Glockenspiel Stand

Made for the Saito SG100 glockenspiel. The distance between the upright supports is not adjustable, so it fits an 85 cm long glockenspiel type instrument only, unless, of course, one changes the size of the cross members. This would be very easy to do. To lengthen, just make up the required length of tubing. To shorten, just cut the existing tubing to length. I may make some adjustable telescopic type cross pieces so that it can be used for various instruments.

These are very sturdy stands, on locking castors, and are height adjustable.

The box it is packed in is 84 cm by 57 cm by 20 cm, and weighs 11.3 kg all up.

Price $200 each.

I am able to freight anywhere in Australia. Cost will depend on destination.
